Some of you may have heard about the latest Google algorithm update aimed specifically at changing mobile search results to give preference to those websites that are mobile friendly (such as responsive sites or mobile specific sites). This update created quite a stir in SEO Land, but was it worth all the hype?
With the world going mobile it is of course now best practice to design and build all new websites with smaller screens in mind, but does this shift in favor to mobile friendly sites mean those that aren’t yet up-to-date simply fall off the rankings completely? Well from what we have seen so far, the answer is… No, not yet!
The roll out of the algorithm started on April 21st and so far few people have reported shifts in their mobile results, however that is not to say we won’t, we know with past updates it can take a few weeks to really start showing signs of impact.
What does this mean to you?
If you have a mobile friendly site, ie it is responsive or you have a mobile specific website then you can relax for a while, those of you that are not fully optimised for mobile this update will eventually have an impact on your mobile rankings for sure, however all is not lost and an upgrade of your current website might be all you need.
